The Titan's Clash
(Big Guy invitational)

"The Storm Giant Galak Starscraper was a key part in the experimental 'eye in the sky' telepathic vision system when he carried a sorcerer on his shoulders who transmitted what he saw to crystal balls and magic mirrors all over the Old World. The experiment ended in disaster when the sorcerer fell off Galak's shoulder during a particularly exciting match and was impaled on the helmet spikes of a passing player".

Blood Bowl manual, page 36, "Did you know?" section.

Since that unfortunate incident, the system was rethought, and now Cablevision uses Storm Giants and Wizards successfully in the same fashion, the latter strapped on a special saddle fixed on one shoulder of the Storm Giants. This cooperation is not easy, though, and the Storm Giants working for Cablevision all need special training. This is done in a special and secretive training camp created by Cablevision, where Wizards and Storm Giants get acquainted and learn to work with each others. Everything else that is going on there is kept secret by the company.

For now, the biggest and mightiest teams have received an invitation from Cablevision to The Titan's Clash, a competition regrouping the Big Guy races from all around the Old World. They say it's to reward the Storm Giants, fervent appreciators of Big Guy matches, for their loyal services, but some paranoid Vampires think it's actually to study the behaviors of "the greater races". Nonetheless, the motivation created by the prizes convinced the Vampires, while the... promised large quantities of food convinced the others.

Grand prize : The winner of the invitational final will win a special player who has been trained in the Cablevision secret camp. The Big Guy starts with a Magic Helmet and a free skill, which is automatically the loss of his premium negative skill. In addition, the player can re-roll each of his future skill roll. If the winning team is part of the premier league and has a B-team, the player can be sent to the farm team to be trained.

Titan's Clash competition : Each touchdown, casualty and completion scored by a team will earn them a certain number of points regarding the competition (see the table below). At the end of the tournament, the team with the most TD points / Casualty points / Completion points (each is a separate competition) will have the opportunity to send one of their player to the training camp, where he will be submitted to all sorts of gruesome exercises and obscure magical experiments (or so the Vampires think). At the end of this training, the player will gain a certain skill. This is a free skill, and the player will have to miss the first match of the new season to reflect his time of training. The same player cannot be selected twice for two different trainings if a team wins more than one competition.

  • Touchdown competition skill prize : +MA or +AG.

  • Casualty competition skill prize : Vampire gains Guard, Mighty Blow or Stand Firm ; Other race gains Dodge, Jump Up or Side Step.

  • Passing competition skill prize : Pass.

Special rules

  • All teams participating in the tournament must have 0 gp in their treasury. This is for competition purposes. You can lose the money either way you want, or will be bankrupted if you didn't..

  • The players participating in the competition are very motivated, and will ignore their Niggling Injuries. The players still have them, but don't need to roll for them at the start of each tournament game.

  • No bonus cards are given during the tournament, only bonus mvp's. Instead of cards, the handicaped teams can choose a number of special purchases for free corresponding to the number of bonus mvp they get from the game (see special purchases table below).

  • Since Cablevision is transmitting all of the tournament games, each match played during the competition is a big match (as the RE "The Big Match"). Technically, the 'gate' rolled at the start of the game is the number of people watching on Cablevision.

  • The members of the audience in the stadium are all Storm Giants and people working at the institute. Storm Giants will not riot or invade the pitch, but love to throw rocks. Big ones. On the kickoff table, consider "Riot" and "Pitch Invasion" as being "Throw Rock". also note that the thrown rocks and injuries from the crowd receive a +1 bonus to the injury rolls.

  • With the money each team gets from the game, they can purchase items from the table below, usable in the following game. Magic Potion and Magic Pills cannot be used twice on the same player(s) during the same drive.

  • Cablevision and especially the Storm Giants sure don't want their favorite greater races to get maimed on the field during this "friendly" competition. Each game, aside from their apothecary, the teams dispose of 2 Healing Scrolls, 1 Magic Sponge and 1 This Will Hurt a Bit effect. Also, Cablevision is providing the teams with special waterboys, and the KO recovery roll is 3+ instead of 4+. Last but not least, the teams do not carry mng's over to the next match (but possible permament injuries accompanying the mng's do). Also note that mng's for the teams coming to the tournament will be cured before they play the first round game.

  • Money bribes are accepted during the tournament, but a bribe cannot be more than 30K per card (or other effect) bribed. More importantly, no money can be exchanged without reason between the losing team and the winning team. This will be supervised and any infringement of this special rule will result in both team being bankrupted.
