Tournament of
the Rings 2005
(premier division tournament)
Ever wondered where all the money thrown away by the premier teams at the end of their games go ? They don't actually throw it away, it goes into a special fund that the league uses to enroll the most powerful wizards of the Colleges of Magic to create magical items of great power and schedule an important tournament bringing out the most spectacular teams that tear each other apart to acquire the prestige and the prizes, for the enjoyment of the fans. Created this season, four magical rings keyed to the four basic statistics of all Blood Bowl players. The Rings of Power can be found here.
The team winning the Tournament of the Rings will earn first pick on one of the Rings of Power, 100,000 gold pieces (in addition to normal winnings) and +1d6 Fan Factor (in addition to the result of the usual Fan Factor roll). The runner up will get second pick on a Ring of Power and 50,000 gold pieces (in addition to normal winnings). The Ring of the runner up, however, will also draw its power from the player, giving him the equivalent of a Niggling Injury that cannot be cured by the Miraculous Recovery card. If the Ring crumbled to dust in the future (see description), the player would still keep the Niggling Injury, but then, and only then, could the player be cured by the Miraculous Recovery card.
Also, before the tournament begins, all head coaches of the teams participating in the Tournament of the Rings will make a special prediction on how many TD's / casualties will be scored / caused during the tournament (including the final). The winner and runner up of the tournament will be excluded from the bet as to not win two prizes. The winner of the prediction (the coach whose prediction will be closest to the final number of TD's / casualties) will receive third pick on a Ring of Power, with the same penalty as the runner up team. (A coach's prediction should be sent to Cujo's email address above as soon as their team's participation is ensured.)
Winner of the prediction contest : ELFishski (15 TD's / 87 casualties predicted; final score : 9 TD's / 98 casualties)
