The End Has Come. (01 Dec 2009) Well... everything has to end some time. These last few months, it would have been complimentary to describe the locker room as a ghost town. Nobody but commissioners were in there regularly for a long while, and I (Khel) wouldn't even be able to tell you, the reader, when the last time a game actually got played. There's a new PC game out there, it's been pretty good, and people just haven't been coming here to play any more. Usually the American football season was always the thing that would bring enough interest back to this league, as a game that simulated it with a taste of fantasy thrown in. This year, there was no bounce at all. Things trickled away until ultimately there were just two or three of us left in the locker room, then two... and this last week, it's been basically just me. I know a dead horse when I see one. And when you find yourself riding one, the proper thing to do is to dismount. I'm very sad to have to be writing this, but it really isn't much more than acknowledging a reality that has been facing us for a while now. Sure, if there's a huge outpouring of emails to me, maybe this can turn around, but right now I can't tell you when I last heard a beep on the heart monitor... and the long, unbroken squeal of it has been going on long enough that I've lost sight of when exactly it started seeming like normal background noise. So it's with a heavy heart that I announce that the Online Blood Bowl League is closing its doors. It's been a pleasure to meet all of you and play with you all, and hopefully your experiences here will be remembered as fondly as mine. Good night and good luck. -Khel and the commish staff |
