Introduction
Welcome to the OLBBL, the largest OnLine BloodBowl League in the
world. At this point, before you try to contact an OLBBL
Commissioner to get your account validated, be sure you have
downloaded the Blood Bowl Client, the Supernumerate Halfling
Scribe (best to update an already created team), the BB Team
Editor (best to create a team), and the Blood Bowl Utility
program from the downloads section, built a team and posted it on the
Web. This can be easily done by creating an account on a
webhosting site, and uploading the team. Some of the more
renowned web hosting sites are Geocities, angelfire, tripod, but
you can use any one you like or are already using (like the one
some Internet company gives to their users).
First of all, you need to connect to the IRC server. These are
the current IRC servers in use:
irc.afternet.org (this one connects you to a random Afternet server)
infinet.afternet.org
Milan.it.afternet.org
calypto.us.afternet.org
If you are new to IRC, I would suggest downloading mIRC
www.mirc.com (free!), then
start mIRC and then go to File, then Options in the top bar menu.
Click the 'Add' button. In the 'Description' box, put in 'Afternet'.
In the 'IRC Server' box, put in 'irc.afternet.org'.The port
number should read '6667.' Leave the Group and Password fields blank.
Click 'OK', then 'OK' again. Now click on the Connect button at the top
of the mIRC window or click on File-Connect to connect to Afternet.
After some server gibberish scrolls through, you will see a prompt
for a channel name. Enter '#lockerroom' in this field to enter the
OLBBL locker room and meet your potential opponents! Note that some
users havea @ or + in front of their nicknames. The ones with the @
are the commissioners of the OLBBL and those marked with a + are
league assistants. You can always turn to these if you have any
problems or questions.
Getting a game
Ask around if anyone wants to play you. State what kind of team
you have and the Team Rating (TR) and in what division you are
playing. When someone has agreed to play you, find a channel to
play in. Now open the BloodBowl Client. If you don't have the
BBclient it can be
downloaded
here. When you have started the client, a window appears
with three fields. In the top field you enter, preferably, your
nickname. In the second field, the chat field, you should enter
//irc.librenet.net/#channelX or //bloodbowl.serveirc.com/#channelX (where X is the number of the channel).
In the data field, you enter //chat.role-play.net/#BBowlX (which one should be agreed upon ahead
of time), where X is the channel number and this has to be the
same as in the chat field. When you have done this, press connect
and you will enter one of the game channels.
If there are coaches here already playing, there will be a name
in the field and a button below that saying " Watch Game".
It is perfectly fine to watch games but respect if the players
don't want you to type in there. Saying "Hi" is never
wrong though (unless you start saying it 500 times). If you don't
want to watch but find an empty channel, close the client and
open it up again and try another channel. Usually, there are bots
in channel 1-8. When you have found an empty channel or the
channel where your opponent is waiting, you press the Join Game
or Start Game button. It is a VERY good idea to watch a couple of
games played by experienced coaches before you play... even if
you have played Blood Bowl before. This will help you get an idea
of how the game flows when played online.
Playing the game (see also:
Game Pieces
in the
BBIRC
Manual)
You will probably soon understand what to do when you are in the
gamechannel. There are 16 squares on both sides of the field. You
move around players by dragging them (hold left mouse button down
over a player and then move the mouse cursor where you want the
player and then release the button where you want him ). To show
the opponent which way your player is moving, you click in the
squares and then numbers will appear showing on which step of his
movement he is. When rightclicking a player, a menu will appear
where you can place players prone, stunned, standing or show that
they have the ball. Now, we move onto the commands which you need
to know to be able to "roll dice".
Commands (see also:
Rolling The Dice
in the
BBIRC
Manual)
Usually the bot's name is nb but sometimes he will be named cb,
hb, pb or similarly. If the name of the bot is anything else but
nb, then use that name instead of nb as shown in the command list
which can be found
here. There are two different sources for the bots
running on the chat servers with different features. By writing
'botname help' you can learn more about the various rolls available.
Information about pb can be found
here
Additional info
Sometimes it can be hard to connect to the mIRC server. If this
occurs try using one of the other servers in the list. If there
are no bots around, ask in #lockerroom if someone can put them up.
Read all the
rules. There are
quite a few differences from the original rules.
Finally, if you have any other questions, the best place to get
answers is to ask around in the lockerroom.
