Bob: "Good evening sports fans and welcome to the Blood Bowl for tonight's
contest. You join a capacity crowd, packed with members from every race from
across the Known World. All howling like banshees in anticipation of tonight's
game. Oh, and yes, there are some banshees... Well, kick-off is in about twenty
minutes' time, so we've just got time to recap on the rules of the game before
battle starts. Your match commentator for tonight is Jim Johnson. Evening, Jim!"
Jim: "Thank you, Bob! Well, good evening, and boy, are you folks in for a great
night of top-class sporting entertainment! First of all, though, for those of
you at home who are unfamiliar with the rules, here's how the game is played."
Bob: "As you know, Blood Bowl is an epic conflict between two teams of
heavily-armed and quite insane warriors. Players pass, throw or run with the
ball, attempting to get' it to the other end of the field, the End Zone. Of
course, the other team must try and stop them, and recover the ball for their
side. If a team gets the ball over the line into the opponent's End Zone it's
called a touchdown; the team that scores the most touchdowns by the end of the
match wins the game, and are declared Blood Bowl Champions!
How do they do it? It's like this..."
In the Warhammer World, death and destruction are commonplace occurrences.
But nothing can match the violence and carnage generated in a single Blood
Bowl match! For those of you new to Blood Bowl, imagine a game of Warhammer
crossed with American football and rugby and you'll have something close to
the maniacal, bone-crushing, mind-jarring action of a Blood Bowl match.
Today almost every race now fields at least one team. From the stunningly
mediocre performance of the Halfling Bluebay Crammers (they kept throwing
stickybuns instead of the ball) to the grudgebearing fury of the
Championship-winning Dwarf Giants, Blood Bowl has become the most popular
spectator sport in the Warhammer World (don't let your players go into the
crowds because the spectators are often more dangerous than the players).
Now veteran and rookie coaches can test their mettle on the Blood Bowl pitch.
The best thing about Blood Bowl is that you create your own team, selecting
your starting players and positions with the 1,000,000 gold crowns you are
allotted at the beginning of the season. You can watch your players and your
team develop (or degrade) throughout the entire season by playing matches
against other teams, hopefully with a couple of wins under your belt. When
played in a league format, Blood Bowl becomes an awesome, action-packed,
gaming frenzy with stats being kept, vendettas being waged and legends being
born! Blood Bowl will allow you to feel the thrill of victory or the agony
of defeat (ouch!).
